. . . concerning the Munros of Inverness Scotland, Michigan City Indiana, Ferndale Washington, Busby Alberta and Simcoe County, Ontario.
We've posted these remarkable photos to add interest to the website while we continue to build it.
Beverly Chatters contributes the identities in the photo on the left: Left to right: Stan Munro, baby Reg Munro, Nick Alexander (neighbour?) Bill Munro, Howard Munro. Bill is Stanley and Howard's father.
What a wonderful image! Taken on a bright, prairie day, probably in August—it is a perfect capture of life on the farm, with the boys taking a break from stooking grain to share a cup of tea. Beverly tells us she keeps that old teapot among her treasures.
This has to be a Munro farm. Anybody know for sure whose? Judging by the age of the characters, what year would this probably be? Clue: Bill Munro was born in 1893. His estimated age here would be ??
Sadly, this fine photo had no annotation, but one clue is that it was found in Bob Abbott's collection. He's the guy who keeps the Smith family history. (Lucy Smith married Robert John Munro.) So it was probably a barn-raising on a Smith farm. Chances are that barn still stands—perhaps it could be identified by some family history sleuth who would explore around Simcoe County and look for a barn with a wood-block foundation, the pattern of which could perhaps be matched to this photo.
Pretty well the whole of Simcoe County is represented here; for sure there will be some Munros, Sneaths, Leadlays and Pratts in the crowd. I'm sure that's young Annie Pratt among the women on the right front row; and I think that old boy in the front with the white beard could be Robert Leadlay. Can you match anyone to an image in your collection? The photo is high resolution, so you can blow it up big-time. Have a close look!
Ardis turfed up this fine photo. It is probable that a couple of these kids would be Munros i.e, progeny of John Alexander and Agnes Lynn of Busby. Robert, William, George, Lucy and Angie would have been school age at this time. Can anyone help with identities, perhaps by matching with a picture in your possession? According to John Henry, the teacher would be a Miss Munn, and that's probably her in the white shirtwaist in the doorway.
